000033 4 cyl 151 engine A J, MN My boss knew that I loved jeeps and one day I found this Scrambler parked in front of the shop! He asked me if I was interested in getting it, and I said, "HELL YEAH!!!!" It came from a co-worker of his that worked for Amtrak. It’s all rusted out, has previously been spray painted yellow, then black... I can see through the floor, has mismatched tires... but I absolutely LOVE it!!!! I’m the ‘crazy guy’ that drives the jeep around in a Minnesota winter with the windshield DOWN and a frozen smile on my face! (people just don’t understand). Feel free to email me. I’d love to get to know fellow scrambler-a-haul-ics...

She is now red:( but won't be for long. She was blue from the factory and who's idea it was to go red is beyond me. I have a 3" body lift and 33x9.5x15 Super Swampers. (also has lockers) I'm pretty sure it was a hard top from the factory. I plan to keep the 258 in it and am just beginning with the rest of the mods.

002679 T176, D300 transfer, clock, tach, A/C Capt Dave, FL I have wanted one for years yet with four children I have been busy buying their toys! They are grown and it is my turn! I found this in Plano with only 89k miles. It had spent most of it's life on a ranch feeding cattle out near San Antonio. I also have a J-10, a '76 Cherokee, and a 96 Cherokee. The Scrambler will be restored, but it won't take much.
002900   Brian Snyder, PA just bought it-plan on using an AMC 304, 3-speed,D20 transfer. AMC 20/D30 widetracs, 4" lift, 35/12.50  swampers.

Pic1 Pic2Pic3

002909   Brent Ball, MO I got in October, 2000.  It has 63,000 original miles with little or no rust.  Since purchasing, I have put a 4" suspension lift on it and 1 1/2" shackles to fit the 35" Kumho MT's underneath.  The truck still has the original 6 cylinder with custom made front and rear bumpers.  It is still a work in progress though. Update 2005:Upgrades include a 4.3. liter Vortec V-6, Ford T18 transmission, Dana 300 transfer case, custom drive shafts, International Scout II Dana 44 axels with 4.88 gears, ARB lockers, 4-wheel disc brakes, Moser axels in rear and Yukon axels in front. Custom bumpers front and rear with custom swing away tire mount in rear. 004143   Marita and Frank Ahsmann

Alberta, Canada

After three years of hard work, a supportive wife and expanding my tool box from hammer and screw driver our 1982 CJ 8 has evolved from rags to riches. When I was seven years old my mother bought me a Hot Wheels '82 CJ 8, from that time on I have always wanted one. Seventeen years later and five years of searching and exploring every back alley in my city (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) we found it. Not all was rosie, cracked frame, bent axles, Bondo, and pieces of a YJ. Anyway here are the specs. 9000 lbs warn winch, KC offroad lights, skid plates (everywhere), swaybar disconnects, original slightly modified 258, YJ front end (keeps people guessing) Warrior shackles 1 1/2" lift, 4" procomp lift, 33 x 12.50 x 15 MT Baja Belted HP, rear axle truss, TJ fender flares, many more upgrades and rebuilds.
004147   Dave Smith, Calgary, Canada I just bought my '82 scrambler all stock except rancho shocks, sprayed in bedliner and bush bumper.  I'll be starting my full restoration in the spring, I've got all kinds of great plans.
004611   M. Perry, North Carolina 3.8 Chev; V6 Purchased 2001 Have added 8,000 Ramsey Winch, new windshield frame, 31/10.50 tires, added one inch body lift, side steps, new seats, front and rear bumpers, still alot to do.

004651 6cyl, 4 speed manual, hardtop Patrick R. McGinness, OH 35" mud tires, Offenhauser dual port intake with 4brl Holley (mdl 4160) carb. this poor jeep has been put through hell. I got it off a buddy of mine for 500.00. He just didn't want to spend the time and money. It was used as a "Mudder," and it shows. I am in the beginning of a total restoration. It Needs just about everything. I basically have only done a few engine mods (like the carb and intake) and redid the brakes. IT runs like a champ but shows the true scars of battle.....

Yes

004722 258, 4speed Mike, MA Bought in 2005.  Currently has: Clifford intake, Holley carb, headers, NV4500, 4.5" lift, 33" tires, 1-peice rear axles, 4.10 gears, twin-sticked D300, 1/2 hardtop, 1/2 softop, LOD rear tire carrier.  Totally rewired with a Painless kit.  4.0 head swap and MPI on the horizon.
004752   Ken Tiu, Long Island NY 305 Tpi, 700r4, One piece axles, 4:10 gears,4" national spring company lift, 35" Tires, also has an '81
004763 6cyl, ½ hdtop Keith, VT 144,673 miles, 31" BFG's. Paid $600, no floor or back bed, got alot of time & effort in it . When I saw it I new I had to own it !
005132   Eric Mann, OK I have owned this scrambler since 1987, and have made many modifications.

Yes

005337 Laredo Package, 4 speed trans Matt Morris, CO Bought it bone stock in June of 2004 from Denver, CO.  It had 89,000 original miles when I bought it.  It was bone stock except for aftermarket chrome wheels, aluminum diamond plate panels, and a new paint job that changed the original color from dark blue to white.  It was in very good shape.  There was evidence from a dash switch and mounting bolts through the front of the frame that there had been a snowplow on it at some point, but it wasn't on there when I bought it.

After I purchased it, I added a Black Diamond 3" lift with Black Diamond Shocks.  Front and rear ARB's with 4.56 gearing and an underhood ARB compressor went on next.  I also added 33" all terrain tires and a Warn 9000 winch.  It now has 95,000 miles on it.

I would consider selling it, but it would take $11k to get me to part with it!

005801 6 cyl, T-4 Curtis Gerhart, OH The previous owner made a poor attempt to "hop" up this jeep but failed miserably.  The second day after I bought it the left front axle snapped. Wonder if he knew this was coming?  I was going to modify the jeep anyhow, but I didn't know it would be this soon.  I had a front and rear axle custom built for this. Dana 44 with HD tubes and a True Trac limited slip in the front.  Dana 60 in the rear with HD tubes and Detroit Locker. New disc brakes all four.  They were built YJ width. (Approximately 3 inches wider than orig.)  They have Wrangler springs.  They are 1/2 inch wider.  Then the motor.  350 chevy 4-bolt main with about 375 HP.  Transmission 700r4 truck tranny beefed up with the original dana 300 transfer case.  As of, March 12, 2005 I am done with everything else except the rewiring from the Ford type to chevy.  Once this is done I will be starting it up.  Oh yeah, one last thing.  Due to so much hp in a small package I will be fabricating some traction bars to eliminate "hop".  I will try to let you know when I am back on the road.  I started this "little" project in April of 2004.

005847 258ci I-6, Auto trans, PS, PB, Tilt wheel, 2.73 gear ratio, Open diffs, Half Cab hard top Jeremy Thomas, MI I have always wanted a Jeep Scrambler, but I didn't think I would ever find one in Michigan that was not all rusted out. I found this one less than 2 miles from home, I really lucked out as it had been stored inside for the past 10 years and I was able to buy it for $600.00. The previous owner had rolled it in a ditch and after having the frame straightened and replacing the damaged body parts could not get it to run so it sat around for 10 years in a pole barn till he decided to sell it. I am now its third owner, I bought it in May of this year and have been steadily working on it to put it back on and off the road. It now runs again, it needed a new ignition module, has a Weber carb, after I fought with the Carter carb for two months. It already had a lift on it, so I put a set of 33s on it that I had off another Jeep. I have installed a Bikini top, as the original one did not survive the crash, and have twin sticked the transfer case. I still have lots to do to it before its first trail ride in 03, needs 4.56s, lockers, one piece axles, and new 35s on it.
005852 6 cyl, 4 sp, ps, pb, tilt, 1/2 hard top Russ Dodd, Taber, Alberta, Canada Modifications at the time of purchase include a 4" Rancho susp lift and a 1/2" warrior shackles.  Have since installed 4.10 gear's, front true trac, rear detroit locker, moser one piece axles, 35" Goodyear MTR's and a Warn 8274.  I'm going to have a lot of fun with this project.
006000   Shawn Kahler, HI I bought it about 2 months ago. Completely rebuilding it from the frame up. I am putting an AMC 360 in it bored 30 over, alum Edlebrock intake, alum Edlebrock 650cfm carb, Headman headers, flowmaster pipes, 33in BFG MTs, Rancho 9000 suspension, 31/2 inch lift, super heavy duty custom bumpers/air tanks(hollow with underhood air compressor), Warn 8500lb winch, and a T-18 tranny.
006326   Dave Perry, OH Original Copper color, 258 six cyl., four speed, radio , heater and cigarette lighter, It is now bright red w/tan top and tan door coves and the entire bed area and roll bar is light tan. Factory aluminum wheels, looks great and runs great but is full of bondo.
006336   Corky Carcanague, FL In 1994, I purchased a 1982 CJ8 Jeep Scrambler in Virginia Beach, VA. Original hard top, hard doors, extensive body work, red in color.  120,000 original mileage and still running at 194,000.

007663   Jacque Duck from Vail, Arizona I purchased this vehicle on Sept 11, 2001. It has a 360 amc 5.9l v8, turbo 400 gmac transmission, and a dana model 300 transfer case. It runs pretty fair. Its fun to drive and its rust free. Its been in Arizona since 1982. It currently has 83,500 miles on the chassis. I purchased it without knowing its was special. My wife said it was cute and I knew it was mine. Its rough now but it will be getting a face lift and a fresh coat of paint this year.

Bill T., Tn I found this Scrambler in a barn at the base of the Great Smokey Mountains. Very little rust and the floorpans had been replaced. Original owner had all paperwork when he bought it and towed it behind an RV for 10 years or so before putting it in the barn and the floor pans rusted due to road salt from the midwest/north areas of travel. I have since replaced the 258 inline 6 and SR4 tranny with a 304 V8 and T176, added 2 1/2" lift and 32" tires, winch and that is about it for now. It has 1/2 hard top and steel doors and I found a complete NOS nutmeg 1/2 soft top for the summer/fall.  It is a daily driver and my little girl loves it.
010106   Craig, SC I bought it in 1995, it now has a Chevy 350 V-8, with a Carter  AFB 600 carb & TH350 auto trans. It came without a top or doors so it now has a Kayline soft top and doors, which I'm looking toto replace with hard ones. Firestone ATX 265's and Gabriel highjacker air shocks. It still has the original Dana 30 front and AMC 20 on the rear, it's indigo blue and has American Racing chrome nugget wheels.

010182 6 cylinder, 4 speed(SR4) white steel wheels, hardtop, swing away spare tire carrier, AC Kyle T., TX This is the project that I have not gotten around to.  It was originally a Forest Service Jeep that did not die of rot.   I have completed 5 other CJ8's, this one I am about to sell to a friend.  It is rust free, running great Jeep. It has about 105K miles on it.   It has Howell Throttle Body Injection that really screams.  I also have a full soft top for it.  Too many projects to get to this one- still working on another 1981 project.  Have another 1981 waiting to go as well.  It is a disease, the inability to pass on a good Scrambler even if you do not need another one.

012652 Scrambler Sport package,6 cylinder w/ 2 barrel carb,  5 speed, heavy duty cooling system with trac-loc rear, soft top with metal doors and 20 gallon tank.

Originally Jamaican Beige with the Nutmeg denim soft top.  (Blechhhh)

Sugar Land, TX It is nothing like it started life.  It is no longer Beige, soft top, 6 cylinder, 5 speed, or remotely stock ride height.  It is now Yellow, with a black hard top, Chevy 350 with a Turbo 350 transmission, Spring over lift with track bar on rear axle, Rear Axle is now a Ford 9 inch, with 35 inch Goodyear MTR's on black krawler wheels.  Bad news is, it's no longer 4 wheel drive, although the stock Dana 30 is still up front.  No transfer case present, I believe the owner previous to the person I bought it from got bored, broke, or something, and quit before he finished.  Work appears to be professional, but......

Engine is currently blown, which is how I got it a week ago.  Tranny is new, though.  No funny stories yet, but they're coming.  Probably as I try to make it a true Jeep again with a stout front axle and a new case, along with some sort of engine.......

013126   Tom Hallberg, TX This is the VIN from a tub I purchased.  The rest is at the junkyard. "R.I.P."
013136   Scott, TX 77,500 original miles.  Has a 258 engine, T-4 tranny, hardtop,  power steering, locking differential.  Found (not running) in a barn in Southeast Texas in Dec. 2001, bought for $1500.  Was only used as a ranch truck by cowhands to repair fence for last 14 years but hadn't moved in over a year.  Has some rust, bad O.D. paint job (was blue when new).  Other than that in decent shape.  Replaced rat's nest seats and belts, new black Rock Crawler 16" wheels, new one-piece rear axle, complete brake system replacement, new Weber carb, now running great.  Plan to repair rust and paint in near future.  Has been given a new life as a hunting rig and Sunday driver.
013462 6 cyl,5 spd, hdtop John Thoeming, Il Bought used in 83, $5k, (Was registered as a truck) went through one full soft top. Built a full top from a CJ-7 top, Full Restoration this summer (New glass body w/all stainless planned)

013757 Power steering,  4 speed, styled steel wheels, black soft top.  ( I have the original sales sticker) Clint Henson, NM This 82 is pretty much stock and the cleanest I have ever seen.  It has a winch, that's about it.  I am looking for hard doors and a 1/2 hard top.  Then just keep it clean and mean!  I had an 81 with a full hard top, sold it and have been looking for another one ever since.

016678 6 Cyl, 258 CID, 5 Speed Manual, PT transfer case Theri--Tulsa, OK This is my late husband's Scrambler, he owned from the early 90's and made several changes. I haven't all the changes so far. It now has a AMC 304 8 Cyl. Custom roll cage, front & rear bumper, rear winch.  It runs excellent but has extensive body rust.  I've moved it into the garage and started work cleaning the body up. Front Axle Dana 30, Rear Axle AMC 20, Dana 300 transfer case; not sure if these are stock, but believe the are. Pictures are from runs in Clayton, OK and Hot Springs, AR.

017055 Laredo Package with air, tach and full doors, sweet!! Tiny May, Tn The attached photo is what it looked like while I drove it daily. On October 23rd, 2001 at 3am it went up in smoke and after my grieving period, I began putting it back together. They say real jeeps are built...Wow!! What a job.
017311   John C. Henderson, AZ It now has a 4.0 ltr out of a 98 Cherokee.  Wow, I should have done this in the first place.  It also now has a Ford 9" in the rear with a Currie high pinion third member.  Front and rear now have ARB air lockers.  The engine came with a refrigeration compressor, which I have converted into my air compressor. I purchased it in 1996, all worn out. I stripped to down to the bucket and started over. I installed a reman 258, and am now probably going to convert it to a 4.0. Added new NV4500 trans, new axles, drive shafts, ring and pinions, rebuilt the Dana 300 with 4 to 1 gears, spring over conversion, Elephant Rack spare tire and gas can carrier, front sway bar quick disconnects, ARB air locker in front and Auburn gear in rear, dual Optima batteries and Warn XD 9000 winch. I had the interior of the bucket Rhino lined and exterior panted Gun Metal Pearl Coat. Added marine carpeting through out interior, which removes easily for cleaning. Of course, it will NEVER be finished. I am a volunteer with the AZ. Dept. of Emergency Services and civilian volunteer with our National Guard, both in communications, and an amateur radio operator, so it is loaded with radio equipment and antennas.
017661 6cyl, 4spd, ps, clock, tach Ray Robinson, NJ The top is a "Grizzly One", full fiberglass. The Jeep has not been modified it is original except for the top. It has 119,000 miles on it. The transmission was replaced with a new one of the same type at about 50,000 miles. It suffers from chronic rust and needs a lot of TLC. The original color was a sort of rusty maroon.  I stripped it and repainted it Black. I have owned this Jeep for 10 years.  Used it as a daily driver for 8 years.  Now I drive it occasionally just to keep it alive. I occasionally think of selling it then I realize it is a member of my family and I can't go thru with it.
017773 6 cyl, auto, hardtop Ken Waters, KS He also owns an '83
017775 6cyl,5spd Marty Blenz, CA 2 1/2" lift, Ramsey RE8000,  Acme hardtop, BFG31x10.50AT, Aero 33 gal. tank, Howell efi, A/C, YJ 1/2 doors w/ TJ uppers, Hummer reclining seats & rear view mirrors.  Just completed 5.2L Jeep ZJ Magnum V-8 w/ a Dakota NV3500 5 speed!
018558 6cyl,5spd Mike Donovan, CA Red, Half-hardtop.  This Scrambler is totally original, still has the wood rails.
018713 Jake, NJ i ALWAYS wanted a scrambler. we were looking for houses and my wife saw this one sitting in a dealership on the way home. she said "hey honey, i saw a jeep pickup thing back there. you should turn around and look at it". she doesn't exactly understand my jeep "hobby", but has taken it in stride, so when she said that i figured i better listen. we drove back, checked it out and my wife literally made me buy it. she wouldn't let me leave without putting a deposit down on it. the only immediate plans i have for it are to sandblast and POR15 the frame, axles and leaves, POR15 underneath the tub and rhinoline inside and the bed. eventually i'll have a fast back soft top made and get it repainted..
019385   Phil Pratt, MI to finish restoring from the frame up, also was added a 304 V8 still has the T5 transmission with 31 tires and a 2.5 inch lift everything else will be left stock.
019559   Steve, Alaska It is an 82 Scrambler with Postal (van) top and half doors. The postal has since been parted out beyond recognition but the Scrambler still remains. I love the full top and Sedan door in the rear. The top is quite heavy but very sturdy. It is perfect for the weather we get up here plus it offers plenty of storage for gear. It is Blk/gry and fully loaded. I just switched out the old carb for the M.P.I. kit a little costly but Ilike it very much. I will send pictures when I get a chance.
019962   Ben I just bought it last month, and it's in great shape, no rust.  Just needs a new tranny, and brake and steering work.  Basically stock, but I got an almost complete MPFI HO 4.0 with it, that I intend to put in some day.
019980 6cyl, auto R. Wyant, S.C. Black in & out w/silver accent stripes. Has a hardtop on it, not sure if it was factory. Just got it last week so have not had a chance to look up the codes. Jeep is ate up with rust. Frame will be replaced & body will be repaired with new sheet metal. Future mods; Dana 44 front, Dana 60 rear (both uncut fullwidth), 401cu to replace the 6cyl, S.O.A. + shackle reversal, tilt wheel, & Master Craft seats. That's all my wife will allow for now as I still need to finish her YJ. The picture is one that was taken prior to purchase. This will be our third Jeep project & the biggest one. rwyant@bellsouth.net

020920 6cyl, 5spd M. Michael Garza, WY This jeep runs and is free of rust, but does have a small dent on the passenger rear fender.  The jeep has about 130000 miles on it.  I am beginning a frame off restoration of the jeep and hope to have it completed by summer of 2002.  I am interested in doing a spring over conversion.
021984 6cyl, 5spd Larry Brown, NM CD player had been added before I bought it. Had soft half top and doors. Rolled in towing accident. Now repairing. Was cream colored, plan to paint it black and have silver and grey decals and hard half top.

This Maroon colored Scrambler is in stock ,excellent running condition with original decals. I always keep it garaged and usually take it out for errands on weekends as well as haul mulch etc for yard. The only item not stock is the stereo system. I had the T-5 transmission completely rebuilt approximately 10 years ago shortly after I purchased "her". Now I am considering having fiberglass body installed from the firewall back along with paint to match original color! As I always remind my wife, "It's only time and money"!!!!!!!!

024588   Keith, MA I am going to undertake a frame up rebuild concentrating on body, lift and engine the transmission is stock and I will be installing my brothers bored out 4.2 liter inline 6. I will buy a new tub and the one piece fold forward front assembly hopefully it will be midnight blue when I am done  I am going to rhino coat the roll bar and the interior of the scrambler and I am undecided about rhino coating the exterior for the bottom foot or so. the truck has 90 k and the body is shot but the front nose fenders hood and grill is rust free except for the hinge bracket for the hood. those will be for sale as soon as I can list them on-line to off set the cost even a little for the restoration. I will be also buying leaf springs that give a 2 1\2" lift and the shackles will give a 1" lift with a 1" body lift .hope fully this will all go off without a hitch but my brother has a wrangler he has transformed into a rockcrawler and he is very knowledgeable as far as mods go. i am taking his engine and selling him my 375hp iroc engine i had special built two years ago . we will do open heart surgery on both jeeps in the next two months or so. The cost of the irocs engine will also offset the cost by about 2500 so hopefully I can get out of this with out selling my house .but if I have to what kind of jeep guy would I be I have heard that jeep owners spend more than problem gamblers lol everything I have said here can go anywhere you want the only thing I really want is free advice from anyone who will give it about redoing the body ,the engine or the lift. I am very gifted in electrical and if you need help with anything let me know I will give advice to the best of my ability.

Used to have a '47 Willy's CJ2A from '76-'79..(wish I still had that one)... anyway .. finally have bought a Scrambler in May 2002 from a personal friend that bought it new in '82 and was "NEVER" going to sell... It needed LOTS of TLC - have been replacing what is needed with original equipment with the exception of the rear bumper. Has 128K miles... TLC still in process .. LOTS of fun and work. I REALLY LIKE IT!!!
030110 6cyl, 5spd, 1/2 cab   Bought mine stock with 6 cyl 5 speed d300 T-case with black half cab. Also it still had the factory fences and whitco toneau cover.   031164   Naples, FL as of 01/99

We got it in 1994 for $500 as a "non-runner" (needed a starter). Had a very amateur 350 Chevy swap, using GM trans and transfer case, but no front drive shaft. Good sheet metal, 4" lift, 33" Swampers, and 8,000 lb Warn winch. Motor ran good, fun to drive. We sold it to a couple in Naples who were thrilled to death to buy it.

  032266 4cyl, 1/2 ht Charles Curry, NJ It is Copper/Nutmeg with orange letters and stripes. Now has 4.0L from a 92 Wrangler which I converted in 1999. It still has the T-5 tranny which I feel I will leave until it blows (works fine for now). The jeep has 138000 on it. Desperately needs a body but frame is fine. Going with a fiberglass body hopefully next spring. Everything else is stock. {note, also has an 83}

(No not a typing error I did mean a 4.2L! It was squeezed it... we sat there giggling when my wife brought up a cuppa "What?" ... er well we got the engine in "yep" & the radiator "yep" but er hum.... then she noticed the fan sitting on the floor & no room for it to squeeze in! After she called us some choice names, she made a very STUPID suggestion...! Women what do they know! (Ssh but it worked! :-)) You guessed it, he's knackered that engine too! + it doesn't do much to the gallon (even less to the litre!) So it's is going back to a 2.4L GM engine.... eventually! (Wont tell you how the wife recogns I ought to stick it!)

035773   Hammer, PA Bought in February 2003 and rebuilt from frame up. Took 15 months to complete and put back on road. Has 258 w/ auto trans. Mods: Fiberglass tub, besttop trail max high back seats, trailmax console, 4wd Hardware dash, BM floor shift for auto tranny, tranny cooler, single pipe header, 1 inch body lift, 2 inch suspension lift, Black Diamond shocks, Cragar wheels 15x8, Kumho Venture MT 33 x 12.5 x 15, and many little custom parts.  Future mods: TFI Ignition upgrade, tuned intake manifold for small holly, and off-road lighting.
  036087   Joey, LA

I ordered this vech. 1982 with rear Trac-Lock, 20 gal. fuel tank instead of the 15, skid plates, cold climate group, HD battery alternator, Laredo Pack, A/C, tilt steering, cruise control, etc. for which I paid $11, 750. and still drive it daily. It has over 300,000 miles on it and the engine has not been rebuilt even though I have replaced several rear axles, 1 T5 transmission, rebuilt the rear end twice, replaced the leaf springs twice and other minor repairs.  This Jeep has been driven from the east coast to the west coast several times, taken me dear hunting daily in the worst of weather conditions, carried my tools and supplies on my cattle ranch and has only left me in me stranded but once due to being stuck in the mud and my wench cable broke; I was 6 miles from the nearest house.

The only changes from the original equipment: front brush bumper with 8,000# Warren wench w/tow-bar, rear HD pipe bumper, Air Locker front diff.,  2" leaf spring lift, 32" Superswampers.

Last week my son called me to come pull him and his friend out of the mud as both of their trucks were trucks were stuck.  They had all ready had two F-250 4X4s hooked together trying to pull them out to no avail.  My son has a 1 ton, single cab, Chevy 4X4 and was stuck in the mud to the axles therefore I hooked my wench onto a tree taking up on the cable while I also pulled in 4 wheel drive, once he came out of the hole his truck tries grabbed launching the truck into my Jeep bending in the rear bed.  This was the first serious damage to my Scrambler since I've owned it.  He held his head down and was very angry at himself as he knows how much my Jeep means to me.  Now the insurance agent wants to total it as she says it is not worth anything!  If this is the case, I'll take the money and fix it myself.  What do you think it is worth?  Mechanically sound, some rust, no other dents, new tires, paint has faded, right rear damage.

I bought it to plow my driveway also. Yesterday the tranny broke, I think something broke off the shifter in the tranny. Into the shop, so I think I'll restore it to original seeing it's low miles and going to end up with a good tranny. Also I have the original soft top and doors that came with it they're like brand new.

I'm told it was originally a North Carolina Jeep, but now, 85,000 miles later, it resides in Georgia, USA.  Known affectionately as "The Beast," it has aftermarket wheels, but I have the factory ones, which I plan to remount when new tires are needed (soon!).  I use it mostly for light hauling -- trips to the landfill, the local home improvement store, etc.  The Beast gets lots of looks and compliments. It's the only roadworthy Scrambler in this town of 30,000 so far as I know.

040840   Tony The jeep is orginally from "rust free" Texas. The previous owner, a true Jeephead from the Hamptons on New York's Long Island, gave it a lot of love and attention to ensure its excellent working condition and orginal beauty. The seats are an excellent touch! See the Jeep or contact me at our site http://rarescrambler.tripod.com/index.html Lucky for us when we were looking to buy our first CJ-8, this beauty became available for sale. After taking ownership, I had an awesome drive on the interstate from the Eastern end of Long Island through New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the Ohio border then changed direction on to Pittsburgh. I was surprised how much attention it got along the way. The next day, I drove it 4 hours north to it's new home in Coudersport, PA. Since then, it has been my daily driver in nice weather between April and November. But, what a difference a couple of years make. The family needed a roomy SUV and now the scrambler must go to free up more space in the driveway.

045213   Jason Graves, Lead S.D Copper and nutmeg in color, just replaced the original soft top and put the hard doors from my 7 on it. Has a 5 speed tranny and original 6 with about 101,000 miles on it. I bought it from a guy about a year ago for $600 dollars. He said the motor was blown, so I said I would take it sight unseen. What happened was the guy poured gas down the carb one cold morning to get her going and their was a hell of an explosion. So I took it home cleaned it up, got a new valve cover, unstuck the needle and seat, pored some oil in it, and she fired right up, runs like a top. It is in very good condition, frame is straight and not rusty, body has a little surface rust, motor is strong. For now I haul my canoe on it and it is my daily driver. I plan on restoring it with a mild lift and keeping it fairly original. I have a 1984 cj7 that's pretty built for the trails,  I am a trail guide for the Black Hills Jeep Jamboree. 048226 4 cyl, 5 spd Halftop, non A/C, power steering, power brakes, vinyl seats, center consol, chrome rims, tire carrier, 350 ring and pinion, pinstripe and decals Jeremy Baca, CA I have owned the jeep for 10 years, I purchased it March of 1995,  I believe that I am the 3rd owner. I have always wanted a Scrambler, and after several attempts to buy one, I found this one.
The Scrambler was stock when I bought it for $6500.00. It had a blown 4 banger, T-5 tranny,  and a fiberglass halftop. It had the factory black paint, with the silver striping and decals.
Over all the jeep was in great shape, and I had many ideas of what I wanted it to become, so the project began.

I didn't want to rebuild the four banger, so I shit canned it, and started looking for a 258 I-6. I found one someone was selling from a 76 cj-5 for $300, I didn't have enough money at the time to rebuild it, so I cleaned it up and bought the necessary adapters and other misc parts for the conversion.  At the time I had no idea what a pain an engine swap/conversion would be on a Jeep, but as you Jeep owners know nothing is easy when it comes to working on a Jeep, no less doing a conversion,  but with the help of some good friends, and patience, and a sum of money, it finally came together.

Around that May I fired it up for the first time, with a rumble, the old 76 I-6 came to life. From there I had to get the exhaust done, and a new rear drive shaft made so I could drive it, but this is California, the lovely state of smog tests. I didn't have any of the smog equipment for this motor, and I wasn't interested in putting any of it on either, so off to the underground world of smog certs.

I used the jeep as a daily driver and did some light wheeling for 3 years, out of that three years, I went through 2 T-5 trannys, and 1 AMC 20 rear-end, it never ends I thought, boy I was right about that!
With a newborn arriving unexpectedly, my CJ-8 was put on the back burner for a while.

Winter of 1998 is when I finally found enough funds to lift it, my good friend Bill is a back yard mechanic, so I had him do a spring over, and shackle reversal, at the same time I decided to do another tranny conversion. I couldn't afford anything fancy, so off to the wrecking yard I went.  I had done tons of research and decided that for the price and availability a NP435 was the best candidate.
I bought the adapters from Advanced Adapters because they had all the resources to make it happen.
With the spring over, shackle reversal done, and new tranny, I was set!  I ran some generic 33" mud  T/As from Grand Auto, and some used American Racing  15x10s I traded for my stock mags, my Scrambler was getting closer to resembling a trail worthy Jeep.

That weekend down at Hollister Hills I finally got to do some real wheeling, until that weak AMC 20 took its final shit. Back to the garage or at the time, carport the Jeep went.
I saved the money again, and in that time of saving that money I had plenty of time to do the research on which rear-end to use, again for the price and availability, the Ford 9" was the choice.
I had a donor car that I found the 9" in, I took it down to a rear-end shop,  had it cut and narrowed, and had them drop a Detroit Locker in it, and with $1600.00 it was done.

It was July 1998 when I got my invitation to the Jeepers Jamboree, I attended it and my Jeep did a great job, I made it through with no breaks and only minor body damage!
1998 through 1999 I made small upgrades, hub conversions, steering braces, carb upgrades,  ect.

Late Summer 1999, while doing some wheeling with a group of friends, I was climbing a hill called 5 Fingers, well my carb was running rich that day, and with a burp and a puff my Jeep went up in smoke.
Luckily we were able to contain the fire to only the engine compartment, but that damage was enough to put my Jeep out of commission for several years.
I tore it down sold that old I-6 to a friend of mine, and had aspirations of putting a Chevy 350 TBI in it. I started with that conversion, but funds ran out, so my Jeep sadly sat and rotted for five years

After the fire I got discouraged, and my priorities changed, I wasn't interested in working on it until winter 2003 when I  bought my house and had my own garage to work on it.
I had my friend bill finish installing the freshly rebuilt 350, again using Advanced Adapters, the swap was clean and smooth.
I dragged it home and started disassembling the tarnished Jeep.

I took the body off the frame, removed all the rusty and rotted parts and sent them in for bead blasting. Through the last two years I slowly started to reassemble the old Jeep, I got the body back from the paint shop in spring 05 and from there finished all the nuts and bolts, put all the shinny and new parts on it. Summer 05 I turned the key for the first time in 5 and a half years, and with a little tinkering the jeep came back to life!
I had a beautiful roll cage built for it by David's Racing Products, I LineXed the interior, I upgraded the front axle to a Dana 44 with 488s and an ARB, and decided to use Rubicon Express 4.5 YJ springs, and M.O.R.E.'s buggy spring system, and SRS.  I am using a home built OBA system including, a York 210 compressor, and Misc.parts from Kilby Enterprises for the pneumatics.

The Jeep is currently rolling on 36" IROCs and 15X10 steel rims.  I will eventually will use some beadlock rims, but for now, this will do.

Bought Scrambler from dealer who used it to plow driveway. One owner 36k on engine, New body, just what I was looking for.

049022   Eduardo, El Salvador Motor is a 6 cylinder diesel from a 1992 Nissan Patrol. Motor, suspension, tranny, gear box, springs... etc are all new! Jeep has unreal power, and does handle very well with 33 x 12.5 x 15 Tires. Jeep is in great condition and is my daily driver. I bought the Jeep from an off road maniac for $5000, and have put in about $3500 in parts, upgrades, and labor. About three months of time and money have gone into this Jeep, and it really pays off when taken off road. Keep in mind the car is in Central America (San Salvador, El Salvador)

052369   Stan, GA I purchased it in Kentucky in 1990 and herded it back to Atlanta. It was originally a 4 cylinder that someone had swapped, or should I say cobbled, in a 6 cylinder. I suffered with the sick motor and the hydraulic clutch until 1998 and then updated the drivetrain to a 350 Chevy V-8 and a 350 Turbo. Now it is a pleasure to drive. At the time of the motor swap I replaced the suspension with a 1" Soft Ride lift kit and installed 31" Bridgestones on 10" Centerline wheels. It is still original dark brown with nutmeg interior. ended at $9100 reserve not met

This Jeep started life in Arizona where it was owned by a contractor who towed it to California. Here in the San Jose area, the first owner had it at the San Jose Airport where he was working at the time. The second owner saw it there and left a note on the windshield expressing interest to buy it. The second owner, the guy who left the note, was an older man who lived in San Jose. He kept the Jeep up at his cabin in the foothills until about 5 yrs ago when I purchased it from him. It was faded and had about 90k miles on it at the time. He told me that he had the engine rebuilt at some point but had no records to show for it. The jeep just turned 100k miles but as you can see, I have had a lot of work done. I have pics from the day I purchased the Jeep so you can see that it wasn’t all rusted out, just faded and used. I will try to list all the things that I have done or had done, but I’m sure that the list will still be incomplete. I have lots of pictures of the jeep just ask if you want to see something. The CJ is now south of San Jose, California.

Exterior:  The paint was stripped down to the metal and the Jeep was primed and repainted the original color (Slate Blue). A new windshield was installed along with a new windshield frame. These tended to rust on the old Jeeps. New fender flares, marker lights, door handles, security locks and window/ door rubber and felt installed. 5 new BFG tires were put on and a stray in bed liner. I have a decal kit that I opted not to install as I liked the way it looked without the decals. The kit was over $300 and is still in the tube. Please note the pics from when I purchased the Jeep. You will see that it was and still is, rust free.

Interior: I installed a new jeep carpet kit, Bestop seats, a nice Sony CD/ stereo and speakers. It did not have a radio when I got it. The stereo is in a Tuffy box as I didn’t want to cut the dash. I also installed a Tuffy box in the rear. All of the dash equipment and lights work.

Suspension: New springs and shackle reversal were installed. The reversal makes the CJ run very straight at highway speeds. The Jeep rides at stock height with tires that are just a bit taller that stock.

Engine: The engine had a rebuild by the second owner, although it does drip a bit of oil and it does not have a fuel injection kit installed. That was next on my list. All the hoses and belts were replaces as well as the plugs, wires and radiator. The original transmission was a 5 speed, but the previous owner replaced it with the stronger 4 speed. The jeep has no A/C, but the heat works great.

055730   Joe Castillo, GA I bought it in march and I've spent every free hour since then working on it. This Scrambler was almost ready for the junk yard, nothing worked and it was very rusty. The frame is in good shape. Besides having the engine re-built I've done all the work myself. Now all the rust is gone and everything works, including the original clock. A lot of work but it was worth it. It has a six cylinder motor

058903   Drew, New Orleans Louisiana Purchased from a friend in LaGrange IL. The engine is the original inline six cylinder model 258. The body is definitely worn out, and I am working on replacing it at some point. I named the car Grandpappy after my grandfather whose nickname was "Jeep."   060957 a/t,p/s, p/b, a/c, hard top, doors, full instr.,3.31 gears,258ci engine E W Jordan, TX I bought this Scrambler about 14 yrs ago, in pristine condition for $4000. I am 2nd registered owner. Since I've owned it , it has been used! Most of the problems I've had, have been related to chasing recalcitrant cows. NEVER carry a gun when working cows!! Because you'd use it!! At any rate its still in pretty good shape. Several slight body cracks, etc. I've had 3 fires in it. The first two were because of grass/weed buildup behind crossmember where exhaust goes thru. The first burned the rubber gasket on the transfer case stick. The second wasn't much. Luckily both times I was at my mom's house when  these occurred. The third fire was a carburetor fire and did damage the hood paint job and wiped out some wiring. I had a fire extinguisher but had trouble locating it in the cab with all my miscellaneous cow working equipment and other STUFF. But I got it out and wrapped a few wires and it ran again.

060958 auto, air Charlie Miller, TX The rock sliders are professionally built by a member of my jeep club out of 3/16" plate, and they work.  It has the original 6 cyl and half hard top.  It has the Jeep bed mat in the bed.  Adds: Ramsey 9000# winch, front locker one piece Moser axles, 4" superlift. I made the bumpers.  Plan on chaging out the 3.31gears for 3.73s and putting larger tires. 3.31s barely pull 31" tires on the highway.
060978 6cyl, 4spd, tilt, ps, pb, ½ hdtop Robert Webber, TN I bought this in 1989 and have made no mods to it. Used it for hunting and fishing and generally playing in the mud. Got married and didn't get to drive it much, now divorced and the truck has setup for a few years.  I'm getting ready to start restoring the scrambler this summer.  I want to keep it as stock as possible for now.  Someday I want a v-8 and an automatic transmission and a full hard top.  Getting old and tired of shifting.  That will come someday.  For now I just want to get it running again and ready for hunting season and any other offroad activities I run across.

It's been stuck more times than I can remember and every one of them was a blast. one time I was stuck in a marsh/wetlands about a 1000 feet from a highway when my top radiator hose exploded. AND I MEAN EXPLODED! It ripped open about a foot on top, so I had to use a cup to scoop up water from my tire trenches about every 100 feet to keep it from overheating. I just poured it right in the torn' hose. WHAT A DAY!  I had fun!!!!!

071158   Pat Casey, UK My scrambler was stolen last Friday Sept. 28th. 2000. I've owned it since January this year. I believe it came from the United States Postal Service (hence the right hand drive). The dash and roll(sports)bar were yellow (original body colour?) but the Jeep was resprayed red. The Vin No. was 1JFCE88HOBTO71158 and engine no. TO71158 (although the previous owner had taken this (258) out for a 360). On my registration document it says it was "declared new in GB by independent importer" but as I said I'm told it's ex-USA. If you could shed any light on any history I'd be grateful, thank you. I'll tag on a few pic's of me in my 7 which I rolled at Jeepfest North in August. It's the biggest gathering of Jeeps in the UK (over 300).I'll try to scan a pic of the Scrambler from a book that it was in and send you the cover too. Hope you like them and don't hesitate to mail me if you have any questions or if you want to find out more about UK Scramblers.(My friend has a LHD one in excellent original condition)

Cliff Reckley, AK 350 chevy, muncie 4spd, 205trans, 3:73 with soft lockers, 7" lift, 38" monsters mudders, silver body, black full soft top.  I'll try and get a picture to ya.  I'm about to put a beefed up 305 fuel inj. in soon.  Better torque, reliability, and fuel economy you know.

Yes

6cyl, 4spd Kent Heath, TX I purchased this rig about 7 months ago from the family of the original owner in New Mexico. Took over a year to find one with no body rust. It is all original except for a few accessories, lift kit, wheels, tires, Vintage A/C-heater, and roll bar modification. It has the original hard top. After a complete tune up and rebuilt carb it runs like a top. All I lack to finish up the project is the paint and bed liner.
Rick, OK Spring over with 1.5 inch springs, Detroit locker, 35X14.50s 350 chevy, NV 4500, Mobi welder, on board air, and air tank, enough Tuffy products to store most everything I own. Tomken rear bumper, tire rack, Jerry can and jack rack and a rockie rack on top of that. I welded up the front bumper myself, its tuffer than a police car trunk, so I guess the welder works well enough. I am in the process of doing putting on Wrangler fenders but keeping the CJ grill, and plan on Line Xing the whole deal bright yellow.

Its currently 77 porche signal green but will soon have a custom camo job.It has a 3 inch body lift to soon be replaced with a four inch suspension lift and reverse shackles. I have to many little upgrades to list.

Michelle Layton Just purchased March, 2002. <congrats!>
Joe and Donna Angle, KY My wife and I own an '82 Scrambler. We bought it new in November of 81. We were married in '80 and it was our first "new car" together. For the last 10 or so years it has primarily been used as a 3rd vehicle although my 16 year old son just got his driver's license so I suspect he will be wanting to drive it on a regular basis very soon. I've made it clear he can drive it as long as he's living at home but when he leaves the Jeep stays. LOL.        Except for our Acme "full" hardtop and custom wheels, our Scrambler is stock. I did add a back seat from a CJ-5 quite a few years back. It has been repainted a couple of times and is due another painting, along with some minor body work, due to the fact I got caught in a terrible hail storm a couple of years ago. It really got beat up.        Our CJ-8 is a 6 cylinder with a manual 4-speed transmission. Believe it or not, after 20 years our odometer still reads just under 100,000 miles. We've never had to do any major engine work although we have rebuilt the transmission twice (surprised?). When we use it, we keep it on the road mostly and any off-roading we do is very light.
LDH Excellent condition - new engine with warranty, body restoration

Vern, Renton, WA Purple with flames! Restored frame up by me in my car port. Over $26,000 invested and I'm still not done most of the work was done by me. It has a 4.3 V-6 that has been warmed over to produce 240hp. Th350 trans with stage II kit installed. Running 36" Baha Claw radials. Trail Master reverse shackle kit, 4" pro comp springs, 3" body lift, Warn full floating rear axle kit with lock in lock out hubs. Rear disc brakes with parking brake, Holley pro pump, advance adapter headers that have been ceramic coated chrome. All the parts were stripped down rebuilt and repainted. I've shown this rig at car shows and have won 5 trophies for the Scrambler. It had a prominent place at the exhibition center for the 2003 car show in Seattle. The license plate PLMKRAZ plum crazy!!!!!!!!!
Darrell I bought it in Oct 1993.  I have had it for 9 years.  It has an Automatic transmission, tac, clock, tilt steering wheel, and factory air (all the extras are factory), am/fm radio and tape player,  factory side boards and side step to help enter the cab.  This is the second Scrambler that I have owned.  The first one was a 1983 that i bought in Oct 1984 and kept until Apr of 1990.  6mo.  later I was looking for another Scrambler.
Ben, WA Straight and rust free
Tony Aericko, IA It is all stock except for a bench seat out a 77 Olds and all the rust that I one day hope to repair. I live in Thompson, IA now but plan to move into MN soon. I was wondering if there is an HEI distributor I could get from the junk yard to replace on my 258. The engine is in good shape aside from the tick at idle. She has been a dependable ride with the only down time being from me getting a little too crazy out wheelin and breaking something. My current funny story is that the gas tank fell out about a year ago and I have been running out of a 5 gallon can since. Due to rust of course. Some day when I can afford it I plan to repair all the rust in the body and and frame. The bolts for the crossmember stripped out on the passenger side stripped out so I had my father inlaw weld it to the frame. I have replace motor/tranny mounts with poly and rebuilt the 4 speed. Well get back to me I always have time to talk Jeeps specially cj-8"s.

I just bought a 1982 scrambler off a retired man who has had for the last 20 yrs, I don't know the last #s in the VIN cause it is out in the barn at the moment, but it has the inline six Dana 300, factory hard top and the best part of all no RUST. No AC, I am a avid jeep fan and have owned several cjs, yj,s and tjs and this is my first. i did not realize how much these are wanted, I bought mine to offroad but have decided to fix it up.
